In a major development, the BCCI and India's head coach Gautam Gambhir are all set to drop Ravindra Jadeja from India's squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

The talismanic all-rounder, who retired from the shortest game format after the T20 World Cup triumph, will likely be in the mix for India in red-ball cricket.

According to OneCricket's BCCI sources, Jadeja is no longer being considered for India's upcoming 50-over format fixtures, and snubbing him from the Sri Lanka ODI squad was a possible hint of what they think about the future.

Notably, India will only have six ODIs till the Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played in a 50-over format. This includes three ODIs in Sri Lanka, which will begin on August 2. The other three ODIs will take place in February next year at home against England, which is scheduled to be held just before the Champions Trophy.

Sundar, Axar To Battle For Jadeja's Replacement

To replace Jadeja, India will have Washington Sundar and Axar Patel, who have made the cut in India’s unit in Sri Lanka ODIs. Both Sundar and Axar can bat at No. 7, making themselves an out-and-out option to fill the void.

Now, it will be interesting to see who gets the first preference in the Sri Lanka ODIs, which will begin on August 2, and will go on till August 7.
