Rilee Rossouw clobbered an unbeaten 106 against Galle Marvels in the final of the Lanka Premier League (IPL) 2024 season at Colombo’s iconic R. Premadasa Stadium. His whirlwind knock helped Jaffna Kings gun down Marvels’ 184-run total with more than four overs to spare to lift the coveted LPL crown for the fourth time in the history of the franchise.

Facing just 53 deliveries in the innings, Rossouw smeared nine boundaries and seven scorching sixes and shared an unbroken 185-run partnership with half-centurion Kusal Mendis.

Chasing 185 for a win, Rilee Rossouw arrived to the crease in just the second ball of the Jaffna Kings after the first-ball dismissal of opener Pathum Nissanka. After taking a cautious approach at the start of his innings (29* off 24 balls), Rossouw took Prabath Jayasuriya and Maheesh Theekshana to the cleaners to bring up a 29-ball half-century.

The South African-based batting marauder marched on to bring up his eighth T20 century and the second of the LPL 2024 season. The cricketer completed the milestone figure from just 50 balls, and notched up the winning runs for the Jaffna Kings to accomplish their fourth LPL title.

Earlier in the match, Jaffna Kings fast bowler Jason Behrendorff struck early with the ball by removing both Galle Marvels opener within the powerplay overs. Asitha Fernando also seized three wickets in his four-over spell, however, Tim Seifert’s calculated 37-ball 47 and Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s turbulent 34-ball 82 ensured the Marvels posted a competitive 184-run total from 20 overs.

As it turned out, Seifert and Rajapaksa’s collective efforts were tendered fruitless by Rilee Rossouw’s run-chase masterclass for the Jaffna Kings franchise.
