Nitish Kumar Reddy, a young India all-rounder, has been with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a while now. He made his IPL debut with the team and has grown steadily over the years. However, after a not-so-great season in IPL 2025, rumours started spreading that he was unhappy with how he was used by the team. Some reports even claimed that he might be looking to leave SRH.
To stop the gossip, Nitish addressed the rumours on Twitter (now X). He made it clear that he has no plans to leave and that he fully supports his team.
Why SRH Might Keep Him
There’s a strong reason why SRH may not release Nitish Kumar Reddy before the IPL 2026 mini auction, which is expected in December.
Back in 2024, before the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, SRH showed their faith in Nitish by retaining him for a hefty price of Rs 6 crore. He was one of only five players retained by the franchise after they made it to the IPL 2024 final. Among Indian players, only Nitish and Abhishek Sharma were retained, proving how much SRH valued them.
Nitish Chose Loyalty Over Money
Even though he had offers from other IPL teams, Nitish made it clear that he never thought of leaving SRH. He said:
"I received interest from other franchises, but I can't really think of playing for any other franchise. I only wanted to play for SRH. They showed trust in me initially, and now I’m committed to repay their trust."
He even said that the price tag didn’t matter to him. What mattered more was being a part of SRH and representing his home region as a Telugu speaker.
"Playing for SunRisers Hyderabad fills me with pride. As a Telugu speaker, I am proud to represent my region and play for SRH. The price tag doesn’t matter for me; my focus is on performing and helping my team win," he told The Quint.
Nitish Reddy's IPL Journey So Far
Nitish was first bought by SRH in IPL 2023 for just INR 20 lakhs. After showing promise, he was retained for 2024, where he finally got regular chances and made a strong impact. He played key innings at No. 4 and also took important wickets, helping his team win matches.
But in IPL 2025, things didn’t go as planned. His batting position kept changing, and his performance dropped. Both his batting average and strike rate went down significantly, by 10.92 and 33.97, respectively.
Despite his dip in form last season, Reddy is still a valuable player. He’s a rare all-rounder who can bowl fast and hit big. If he were to enter the IPL 2026 auction, many teams would be eager to sign him.
