"Blood Is Not Cheaper Than Money": Furious Fans Rage At BCCI For Ignoring Sentiments

The Asian Cricket Council’s confirmation that India and Pakistan will face each other up to three times in September’s UAE-based Asia Cup has ignited fierce backlash. With both teams drawn in Group A alongside UAE and Oman, the grouping guarantees at least one high-voltage clash, and potentially more in Super Fours or finals.

This comes amid heightened tensions after April’s Pahalgam terror attack, with fans accusing the BCCI of "sportwashing" by engaging Pakistan diplomatically and financially. Calls to boycott matches have trended for 48+ hours, demanding India withdraw or refuse to play Pakistan.

Netizens Urge No Cricket With Terror Sponsors

What triggered Indian fans' sentiment is the recent statement from the BCCI that has so far maintained that India will compete in the tournament as scheduled. Being the host nation and part of the ACC’s official schedule, officials have indicated there is no room for withdrawal or boycotts at this stage.

The Asia Cup is also seen as a legitimate ICC-recognised T20 tournament, distinct from exhibition matches or unofficial events that have seen Indian teams withdraw (from World Championship of Legends) recently due to similar tensions.

Indian social media erupted over perceived insensitivity, arguing geopolitics can’t be separated from sport. Many vowed to skip broadcasts, while others pressured BCCI to reconsider.

Let's take a look at how fans stormed the internet with #BoycottAsiaCup:

"Let’s just hope that if this is allowed to continue, then there will be mass boycott of entire Asia cup. BCCI must remember, it is the public at large who brings in all the money. Without that Cricket will suffer same fate as other sports." - @parikh_np

"Fully Agree! @BCCI - please boycott Asia Cup if you have to. It is time you show the "I" of "BCCI" stands for INDIA." - @debashish_mitra

"‘Sports must go on’ - @SGanguly99 I pity on Ganguly , inke ghar se koi fauji hota toh saayad ye kabhi nhi bolte #BoycottAsiaCup" - @major_pawan

"Boycott India vs Pakistan Match Shame on BCCI Shame on Jay Shah Shame on Rajiv Shukla Shame on the Indian Government #AsiaCup2025 After Pahalgam terror attack & Operation Sindoor, cricket with Pakistan? Disgraceful. #BoycottAsiaCup" - @TheTermina87857

"No Cricket with Terrorist Nation Pakistan #BoycottAsiaCup" - @slb_cool

Boycott Trend Might Affect Viewership

With fans enraged and #BoycottAsiaCup trending on Twitter, the upcoming India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash is likely to suffer a major setback. Viewership may take a hit, despite India-Pakistan matches traditionally breaking records.

Notably, JioStar shattered TV viewership records when the India vs Pakistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 attracted 20.6 crore viewers. Whether the match will go ahead as planned remains uncertain, but the tension surrounding it is spreading rapidly.
