The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the schedule of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on February 22. Interestingly, the Indian board only released the itinerary of the first 15 days of the tournament.

The Indian T20 extravaganza will launch with a match between defending champions CSK and the star-studded RCB line-up on March 22 in Chennai. As per the recently-released first phase of IPL 2024 schedule, the 21st planned match will be staged at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on April 7.

Here at OneCricket, we take a look at why did the BCCI only released the IPL 2024 schedule of only its first 15 days and when can fans expect the announcement for the remainder of the fixtures.

Why did BCCI announce IPL 2024 schedule of only 15 days?

The BCCI unveiled only the first 15 days of IPL 2024 schedule because the tournament itself is set to coincide with the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India.

As per the government data, the Election Commission will be announcing their polling dates sometime in mid-March, i.e., roughly a week prior to the launch of the IPL 2024 season.

When will BCCI announce IPL 2024 schedule of remaining matches?

The BCCI is aiming to get ahold of the entire schedule of the polling dates before making an announcement of the rest of the IPL 2024 itinerary.

Back in 2009 and 2014, the BCCI shifted the IPL season out of India to South Africa and UAE respectively owing to Lok Sabha Elections. However, the Indian board is determined to host the entire IPL 2024 within India, spanning from March 22 until the final week of May.

Fans can expect the BCCI to announce the schedule of the remaining IPL 2024 matches sometime in mid-March.
