Khulna Tigers take on the Sylhet Strikers in Match 42 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024. As the league's ongoing edition reaches its fag end, the Tigers strive to revive their dwindling playoffs contention with a bout against the already eliminated Strikers. 

The Tigers are placed fifth in the seven-team standings of Bangladesh's premier domestic T20 competition with five wins and six defeats in their 11 league stage encounters; a substantial victory in their final game might help them pip Fortune Barishal to the fourth and only opened slot towards the next round. The Strikers are out of the race with just four wins in 11 matches.

Suppressed under the pressure of the asking rate, the Khulna batting unit suffered a horrendous collapse to just 127 all out, with only skipper Anamul Haque (35) and wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope (31) showing some resilience and fight.

The game against Sylhet, however, is a final opportunity for their batters to make amends and post a sizeable enough score. So, they must not just bag a win but also propel their NRR above the fourth-placed Barishal rivals.

Having conceded significant ground with series of early losses during the league stage, the Strikers find themselves out of the BPL 2024 title contention despite winning their last game versus the Comilla Victorians. It would've boosted the squad's morale but also lent a sorry reminder of their disappointing performances. 

On the day, however, opener Kennar Lewis (33) provided the Strikers a solid start and laid the foundation for middle-order maverick Benny Howell to come out all guns blazing during his enterprising knock of 62 not out off 31 balls.

Howell's late blitz gave the Strikers a perfect push towards an imposing score of 177/5 in their 20 overs before Tanzim Hasan Sakib's 3 for 33, backed up by restrictive spells from Samit Patel (1/15) and Shafiqul Islam (1/18), took the game completely away from the opposition.
