The auction for IPL 2025 is likely to take place on November 24 and 25, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is currently the front-runner to host the event. Jeddah is also under consideration, while BCCI has also explored other places like Dubai, Singapore, London, and even Vienna in Austria, as potential venues for the mega event.

However, the question is, why BCCI is keen to host the event outside India? In the past, BCCI has hosted mega auctions in India as well. Still, the major reason for not considering Indian venues this time around is that the auction will take place during the opening Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia which is scheduled to start on 22nd November. So, if the event happens in India, the timings will collide with that game and all parties involved are not keen to go into such a situation.

Also, the India-Australia Test match will be shown on Disney Star and they are also one of official broadcasters of IPL, so to avoid overlap, the BCCI seem to have decided to arrange auction out of India and most probably in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. If the auction does happen in Riyadh, it will being in afternoon according to the IST and by that time, the third or fourth day of the Test match will be over.

So it is a pragmatic decision by BCCI, keeping in mind the broadcasting of the two important events and interests of Indian cricket fans.
