Cheteshwar Pujara served Indian cricket with great distinction for more than a decade and played a big role in India's consecutive Test series win in Australia. He provided stability at number 3 for India, but has not found a place in the Indian side since the WTC final against Australia in 2023.
The right-handed batter is still working hard and scored runs in the last Ranji Season and also county cricket. Now, in the 2024-25 Ranji season, he has notched up another century against Chhattisgarh, and it is his 66th first-class century. He also completed 21000 first-class runs on the way and has shown the Indian selectors and team management that he still has the hunger and skills to score big runs.
Cheteshwar Pujara Leads Saurashtra's Fightback
The match is being played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, the home ground of Saurashtra and Chhattisgarh posted a massive first innings total of 578 on a flat deck. In reply, the home team lost a wicket early, but Pujara built a solid stand with Chirag Jani and Sheldon Jackson to keep Saurashtra going. Jani and Jackson could not convert their starts into a big score, but Pujara with his immense concentration continued, and notched up a century in style.
Earlier, for Chhattisgarh, Amandeep Khare scored a brilliant double century and Saurashtra still need to do lot of hardwork to gain a first innings lead. Also, Pujara would like to convert his hundred into a double and stake his claim for a comeback in the national side after Indian batters struggled in the opening Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
