The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is hopeful of hosting the South African cricket team for a two-match Test series in Bangladesh as scheduled in October even though the country has been engulfed with the prevailing political turmoil. The unrest in Bangladesh was triggered following the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, which led to reports of attacks against minorities and political rivals all across the country.

The Bangladesh cricket team recently travelled to Pakistan, and is currently in India for a two-match Test series.

BCB hopeful of hosting SA Tests despite T20 World Cup Shifting

Bangladesh was scheduled to host the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup at home between October 3 and October 20. However, the prevailing political tensions in Bangladesh prompted the ICC to shift the tournament to UAE instead.

In spite of the reallocation of the T20 World Cup, a certain BCB official is hopeful of hosting their planned two-match Test rubber against South Africa in October and November. As quoted by Cricbuzz, the BCB official said:

“We are hopeful that the tour will commence as per schedule and we will officially announce it in the coming days.”

If the series against South Africa goes ahead as scheduled, the first Test will be hosted by the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka and the second Test will be held at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, all between October 21 and November 2.

The Bangladesh cricket team recently scripted history by toppling Pakistan by a 2-0 margin in an away series. Najmul Hossain Shanto and co. are currently in India for a fresh two-match Test assignment, which will commence on October 19 with the series opener at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium.

The series against Pakistan and India, as well as the potential series against South Africa all constitute a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle.
