Delhi Capitals’ young star Jake Fraser-McGurk has decided not to return to India for the remaining part of IPL 2025, following the scary incident in Dharamsala last week. The match between PBKS and DC was abandoned due to security threats amid India-Pakistan tensions.

IPL 2025's clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals held on May 8 was stopped midway and later abandoned due to security concerns. Air raid warnings were issued in nearby areas after Pakistan launched drone attacks on several northern Indian cities.

There was a power outage at the stadium, and fans had to be evacuated urgently. While at first it was thought to be just a technical issue, IPL authorities later clarified that security concerns forced them to evacuate.

Jake Fraser-McGurk Shaken After Dharamsala Incident

Meanwhile, Jake Fraser-McGurk, who is only 22 years old, was the youngest player from both teams. According to his coach, Shanon Young, who spoke to TOI, the Australian batter was shaken the most by the event.

"I'm honestly not sure. He is still tossing up a decision. I spoke to him this morning, and he is still unsure. He was shaken more than most. Not surprising given he is the youngest of the tourists, and he was quite uneasy the day before the game and then obviously after we were evacuated and then the subsequent trip back to Delhi," Young told TOI.

Even before the match, he had been feeling uneasy. After the emergency evacuation and return to Delhi, he felt even worse.

"He wasn't in a good way, and I am very thankful I was there to help guide him through that. It was hard enough for a 50-year-old well-travelled man, let alone a kid. The Delhi Capitals staff and organisation as a whole were amazing and always had our safety as paramount, as soon as all this happened. They really were incredible in a time of uncertainty," he added.

After the incident, the BCCI quickly suspended the IPL and flew all players and staff out of danger. While the tournament is now set to resume on May 17, Fraser-McGurk has chosen not to return, still feeling the impact of the situation. Subsequently, DC hired Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement.

IPL Tweaks Replacement Rules Ahead Of Resumption

In a major move, BCCI has allowed IPL 2025 teams to sign ‘Temporary Replacements’ for unavailable players due to the league's rescheduling. However, such players can’t be retained for IPL 2026 and must re-enter the auction.

Delhi Capitals became the first team to use this rule, replacing Jake Fraser-McGurk with Mustafizur Rahman. The change comes as some foreign players are unlikely to return due to national duties or personal concerns.
