The West Indies Cricket Board has announced its 15-player women’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia. The team will be spearheaded by Trinbago Knight Riders star and 17-year-old spin sensation Samara Ramnath. In addition, Asabi Callender was appointed as her deputy for the two-week long week.
West Indies announce squad for ICC U19 WC 2025
Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced a 15-member squad for the West Indies Under-19 Women’s team for the upcoming ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 on December 23, i.e., roughly a month prior to the launch of the tournament in Malaysia.
Right-arm spinner Samara Ramnath, who plays for the Trinbago Knight Riders in WCPL, is set to lead the group alongside her deputy Asabi Callender. Here is a look at the entire West Indies Under-19 Women’s team for the upcoming ICC event.
Samara Ramnath (captain), Asabi Callender (vice-captain), Abigail Bryce, Kenika Cassar, Jahzara Claxton, Denella Creese, NaiJanni Cumberbatch, Erin Deane, Amiah Gilbert, Trisha Hardat, Brianna Harricharan, Amrita Ramtahal, Selena Ross, Kristen Sutherland and Aaliyah Weekes.
Reserves: Dicoreya Collymore, Krisanne Howell, Aneisha Miller, Danielle Manns and Laurene Williams.
The West Indies Under-19 women’s cricket team is placed in Group A of the tournament alongside hosts Malaysia, Sri Lanka and defending champions India. They will open their campaign with a match against India on January 19 at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
Samara Ramnath and co. will subsequently face Sri Lanka on January 21 and Malaysia on January 23 to cap their opening round of the competition.
As many as 16 teams are competing in the second edition of the tournament, with all competitors divided into four groups of four teams each. The top three teams from each group will qualify for the Super Six stage of the competition from January 25 onwards. The semifinals and the final will be hosted by the same Kuala Lumpur-based venue on January 31 and February 2 respectively.
