In a significant development, Bengal made history on Monday (December 23), as they chased down the highest-ever successful target in the history of Women’s One-Day Cricket. In a thrilling encounter against Haryana in the Senior Women’s Trophy 2024 at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C in Rajkot, Bengal made this remarkable record.

With this remarkable achievement, Bengal shattered the previous record set by Northern Districts, who chased down 309 runs against Canterbury in a 2019 New Zealand domestic match. On the international front, Sri Lanka held the record before today, having chased down 305 runs against South Africa earlier this year.

Quick Recap Of The Match

Talking about the match, Bengal Women won the toss and elected to field first but this decision soon backfired as Haryana set a formidable target of 389. Shafali Verma, played a scintillating knock, and made 197 runs off 115 balls that included 22 fours and 11 sixes. Her knock was the backbone of Haryana's innings, as she forged a dominant 173-run opening partnership with Reema Sisodia.

Chasing down a daunting target, Bengal’s top-order came out with a fearless approach. The chase got off to a fantastic start, thanks to opener Dhara Gujjar, who made an aggressive 69 runs off 49 balls. However, it was Tanusree Sarkar, whose blistering 113 runs off 83 balls stole the show.

When Sarkar was dismissed, Bengal still needed another 100 runs, but Priyanka Bala ensured there would be no let-up in the chase. She played an unbeaten knock of 88 runs off 66 balls.
