Markhors-PAK (UMA) defeated Lions-PAK (NUR) by 29 runs in Qualifier 1 of the Pakistan T20 Cup 2024 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday. With this win, Iftikhar Ahmed’s men have secured a spot in the Pakistan T20 Cup 2024 final where they will lock horns with Stallions-PAK on Wednesday, December 25.

UMA vs NUR Highlights: Khawaja Nafay and Muhammad Faizan Go Without Troubling The Scorers

The Lions came out roaring after choosing to bowl first. Afaq Afridi wasted no time in making an impact, taking two wickets in the second over to send Khawaja Nafay and Muhammad Faizan, back for ducks.

With Aamer Yamin keeping things tight at the other end, giving away just 2 runs from his first 2 overs, the Markhors were off to a shaky start.

While the top order crumbled, Fakhar Zaman decided it was time to counterattack. He played his shots, but the lack of support from the other end was frustrating. Randhawa could only manage a single before losing his wicket, and skipper Iftikhar Ahmed tried to steady things with Fakhar but couldn’t get going, scoring just 14 off 17 balls.

The momentum shifted when Muhammad Abdul Samad walked in. With the Markhors needing a push, Samad smashed 5 fours and 2 sixes, scoring a blistering 41 off just 20 balls. His knock brought life back into the innings and gave Fakhar the freedom to keep firing.

Fakhar Zaman reached his fifty in 40 balls and didn’t stop there. With his elegant strokes and powerful hits, he kept the scoreboard ticking, smashing 9 fours and 5 sixes. Though he got out in the final over, his 89 runs were the backbone of the Markhors’ innings, helping them post a solid 180.

The chase began on a shaky note for the Lions as they lost Imam-ul-Haq (1) and Omair Yousuf (2) within the first two overs. The Markhors’ bowlers made the most of the conditions, keeping the batters on a tight leash.

However, Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Taha decided to stabilize the innings. The duo built a promising looking partnership as they rotated the strike and found boundaries to bring the Lions back into contention.


But just when the Lions seemed to be finding their footing, Nisar Ahmad struck. He trapped Hasan for 27, breaking the crucial stand. Taha continued to fight but fell agonizingly short of his fifty, dismissed for 44. Losing both set batters in quick succession left the Lions reeling and opened the floodgates for the Markhors.

The double blow triggered a collapse as the Lions lost wickets like a house of cards. The middle and lower order struggled to keep up with the required rate, and the pressure mounted with every dot ball.


Muhammad Musa Khan tried to up the ante in the final overs as he smashed an unbeaten 26 with a few boundaries. But by then, the damage was already done. The Lions could only scrape together 151/9 in their 20 overs as they fell well short of the target.
