Former South African pacer Allan Donald has highlighted the growing influence of Indian cricketers and the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the success of the SA20. During a recent media interaction, Donald emphasized the increasing stature of the SA20 and also expressed his excitement for the inclusion of the two Indian cricketing stars, Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli.
Besides the excitement for a far-fetched inclusion, Donald also acknowledged the positive impact of having Indian players involved in the league which prompted him to cite the inclusion of Dinesh Karthik in SA20 Season 3.
Donald Excited For Indian Players Participating In SA20 League
Notably, Dinesh Karthik is set to step into the league for the Paarl Royals. Karthik's move was praised by Donald as he shared that it would inspire young players and further elevate the league's profile.
“It really is incredible to have an absolute Indian legend join us. He’s such an intelligent cricketer, and for me, it’s a joy to watch and listen to him commentate. He’s truly a breath of fresh air. It’s wonderful to see an ex-international player with such a wealth of IPL experience being signed for SA20. It’ll be amazing to watch him play if he does take the field," Donald said.
Donald was not a miser while praising Dinesh's enthusiasm for participating in the tournament and praised him for his influence over the youngsters.
"He is still a fine cricketer and can perform at a high level. Listening to the launch and seeing him being actively involved in India while promoting SA20 was absolutely superb. It was a brilliant move. Having him around will be fantastic and will mean so much to young cricketers, without a doubt," he added.
However, Donald was stupendously excited when he was asked which Indian players he would like to add to the league if BCCI permits. The legendary bowler was all hands up for the inclusion of Indian stars, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah.
“That would be the most special thing. That’ll just put it to another level. That’ll add another level of how big this tournament can become if you're allowed to. Imagine two—oh, imagine two per team. But we'll keep it there at one. I'll have those two players for me— Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. If I have to pick from a batter or a bowler—100 percent sure,” he remarked.
Donald further acknowledged the impact of the IPL on cricket, emphasizing its growing popularity and how it influences leagues worldwide. He mentioned that young cricketers around the globe are inspired by Indian superstars and the ever-evolving Indian Premier League, which keeps getting bigger, better, and faster each year.
