The opening game of the inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC) at the Grand Prarire Stadium, Dallas saw Texas Super Kings (TSK) secure a 69 run victory over Los Angeles Knight Riders LAKR) on Thursday.

Faf Du Plessis celebrated birthday with win over LAKR

The win was made sweeter as it coincided with the 39th birthday of TSK captain Faf du Plessis. The start of this fresh cricketing chapter in the USA was made even more memorable as du Plessis, post-match, was spotted indulging his fans, signing the team's bright yellow flags, caps and jerseys.

As du Plessis engaged with his followers, they responded with a heartwarming rendition of 'Happy Birthday'. The heartwarming moment was captured and shared by a Twitter user on the micro-blogging site which ignited a wave of cheer across the platform.

Meanwhile, despite du Plessis's personal performance being marred by a golden duck, RSK rallied to reach a massive total of 181/6 courtesy of quickfire half-centuries from Devon Conway (55) and David Miller (61).

The LA Knight Riders' attempt to chase down the target fell drastically short, as they were dismissed for 112 in just 14 overs. The Super Kings' bowling arsenal was led by Mohammad Mohsin, who bagged 4 for 8 and he was supported by Gerald Coetzee and Rusty Theron, both of whom claimed two wickets each.

It is worth mentioning that du Plessis served Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League for seven seasons between 2012 and 2021, before being released. He amassed 2932 runs across 100 IPL games before his tenure at CSK ended.

The flamboyant batter found a new home at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2022 mega auction where he was immediately appointed as their captain.

Earlier this year, du Plessis captained Joburg Super Kings, a franchise-owned CSK, in the debut season of SA20. In a reaffirmation of leadership roles, the seasoned cricketer now finds himself once again at the helm of a team under the CSK umbrella, this time in the burgeoning Major League Cricket.
