As India gears up to face England in the upcoming five-match Test series starting on January 25, all eyes are on the team's performance in the longest format of the game. In recent times, India has faced challenges, particularly in the middle order, leading to a lack of dominance. One player who has faced scrutiny is Shreyas Iyer, who has been granted an extended opportunity to prove his mettle.

Amidst criticism, Iyer seems determined to refine his batting style and make substantial contributions on home soil. In preparation for the crucial Test series in the World Test Championship cycle, a video surfaced of Shreyas Iyer diligently practicing in the nets. The footage showcased his efforts to confront deliveries with the potential to make unpredictable turns, emphasising his commitment to addressing spin-related challenges.

However, the online community expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of footage depicting Iyer facing short deliveries. Critics pointed out that he has faced dismissals due to such deliveries in the past, highlighting the importance of him practicing against varying challenges.

In his career spanning 12 matches and 20 innings, Shreyas Iyer has 707 runs at an average of 39.27. He has a century and five half-centuries to his name in these games. The majority of the runs have come on home grounds, as he has just 277 runs from nine innings away from India.

India are set to kick off the Test series under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. As this series unfolds, it marks a crucial juncture for Sharma, possibly one of his last stints as captain, with contenders like K L Rahul and Hardik Pandya eyeing leadership roles in the future.

The subsequent tests will be hosted at various prestigious venues, including Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium, Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, JSCA International Stadium Complex, and HPCA Stadium. The conclusion of England's tour of India is slated for March 11th.

Before the team heads to the Test series, India will play Afghanistan in the final and third T20I on January 17 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This will be the final T20I that India will be playing before the 2024 ICC Cricket World Cup.
