Rohit Sharma supports Mumbai in Ranji Trophy final

Rohit Sharma, scheduled to turn up for Mumbai Indians in the forthcoming IPL 2024 season, attended the Wankhede Stadium on March 12 to showcase his support for the Mumbai team in the Ranji Trophy final.

The cricketer was spotted enjoying the proceedings from the sidelines on Day 3 of the contest, at a time when Mumbai had seized complete control over Vidarbha with a huge lead.

Interestingly, Sharma's presence for the high-octane first-class match came against the backdrop of BCCI announcing an incentive scheme for Test cricket. The Indian skipper himself welcomed the decision and described Tests as the 'ultimate format of the sport'.

With the Ranji Trophy serving as an ideal platform for budding Indian Test cricketers, Sharma seems to be setting an example for others for prioritizing India's ultimate first-class structure.

Earlier in the match, Mumbai managed to tally just 224 on the opening day, largely owing to Shardul Thakur's belligerent 75 off 69 balls

Despite their Day 1 batting collapse, Mumbai secured a huge 119-run first-innings lead after Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, and outbound veteran Dhawal Kulkarni shared nine Vidarbha wickets between them.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Team India discard Shreyas Iyer listed scintillating half-centuries in the second innings to mount Mumbai's lead, also emboldened with a 136-run knock from young Musheer Khan.

Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, will soon join his Mumbai Indians teammates in the forthcoming IPL 2024 season. He recently led the Indian team to a 4-1 Test series win against the visiting Englishmen.

India's emphatic outcome also helped them scale the number one ranking on the 2023-25 WTC points table.
