Having finished their pre-season training camp, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) reached Chennai on Wednesday (March 20) ahead of their much-anticipated IPL 2024 opening clash with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 22.

Skipper Faf du Plessis and his brigade, including legend Virat Kohli, arrived at the Chennai airport with a huge reception from the crowd and a spree of media personnel in the build-up to their first encounter with the mighty Super Kings led by the great MS Dhoni.

While the crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium is likely to be CSK-dominant, RCB also boast of a passionate fanbase across India and the world, with the presence of giants such as Kohli acting as a huge point of attraction towards the franchise, which is eyeing the elusive men's IPL trophy.

The marquee opening game between the two arch-rivals is set to be a sold-out affair with a packed crowd anticipated at the iconic Chepauk, partly because the game witnesses the return of the city's proud adopted son Dhoni after a year-long absence since his team lifted the IPL 2023 trophy in Ahmedabad.

Even at midnight on a weekday, the craze and noise at the airport upon the arrival of RCB and Kohli were huge, reinforcing the love and the place the man enjoys in the hearts of cricket lovers everywhere he goes.

Kohli returned to India on Monday (March 18) and rejoined the RCB squad after being in London for the past two months to be his wife and film star Anushka Sharma as she gave birth to the couple's second child 'Akaay'.

Not played any competitive cricket since mid January, the IPL 2024 is thus the 35-year-old cricketer's comeback assignment, where he would not only strive for the coveted trophy but also ensure smooth individual preparations towards the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 that follows.
