Gautam Gambhir has returned to KKR as a mentor this year, and ahead of the impending IPL season, the former captain reflected on his player journey with the franchise, suggesting how the relationship transcends beyond the trophy numbers.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, besides multiple playoff qualifications. Under Gambhir’s leadership, KKR witnessed a meteoric rise from being an underdog to a champion team.

That being said, Gambhir is back with KKR as a mentor after a short stint with LSG. The former captain even quit politics to devote his full focus to his duties with the Kolkata-based franchise.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir recently attended a fan event ahead of the IPL 2024 season inauguration and reflected on his successful journey with the franchise in the past decade.

Gambhir offered a humble reflection on his tenure with the team, acknowledging that he did not single-handedly make KKR successful. Despite his significant contributions both as a player and a leader, Gambhir emphasized that the franchise instead made him a good leader.

The former opener added that his relationship with KKR transcends beyond the purple and gold jersey and the two trophy titles. He solely devoted himself to the franchise and KKR for him is an emotion.

Having said that, ahead of a new IPL season, Gautam Gambhir ditched his thriving political career and LSG franchise to rejoin KKR as a mentor, thus reflecting on his complete loyalty to the franchise that introduced him as a proven leader.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will kick start its IPL 2024 season campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 23 at Eden Gardens.
