Seattle Orcas trounced Washington Freedom by five wickets in a thrilling Match 3 of the electrifying Major League Cricket (MLC) at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Henriques stunned Klaasen with an absolute jaffa

The highlight of the game was a magnificent delivery from Moises Henriques that saw Heinrich Klaasen walk back to the pavilion with just one run to his name.

The Seattle-based team found themselves facing a challenging start as they pursued a relatively moderate target of 145 runs set by their competitors. An unsteady start saw the team's score standing at a worrisome 36/2 in under seven overs. All eyes then turned to Nauman Anwar and the veteran Klaasen, both tasked with reviving their team's faltering momentum.

However, Washington Freedom, captain Moises Henriques had other plans. The seasoned player showed his skills with an extraordinary slower delivery that sliced back in, breaching Klaasen's defense and shattering the stumps. This wicket saw the Orcas struggling at 43/3, putting their win in jeopardy.

The tide began to turn with the onset of a 53-run partnership between Imad Wasim and Shimron Hetmyer, followed by a resilient 52-run collaboration between Wasim and Shubam Ranjane. This concerted team effort ultimately guided the Orcas past the finish line with five wickets and two balls remaining.

Earlier in the day, Washington Freedom had set a challenging target with their score of 144/7 in 20 overs. Despite a shaky start that saw them stumbling at 100/6 after 14 overs, a late surge of power from Akeal Hossein, who smashed 33 off 22 balls, managed to elevate the team's score to a more respectable total.

Meanwhile, this victory marks the Seattle Orcas' inaugural win in the MLC 2023 league, propelling them to third place on the points table, just behind the Texas Super Kings and San Francisco Unicorns, who also secured wins in their opening matches.
