Team India flattened out hosts West Indies inside three days in the first Test at Dominica’s Windsor Park. Registering their win by an innings and 141 runs, Rohit Sharma and co. also went 1-0 up in the two-match series.

Even though captain Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal had hammered majestic hundreds earlier, team spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the chief architects of destruction for the visitors.

Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma, who is not a part of the current travelling party, has praised the two spin-bowling all-rounders during his review of the Test match.

Ashwin is one of the best in the world: Sharma

The legendary off-spinner Ashwin claimed five wickets for 60 runs during the first West Indies innings on Day 1. Dusting out the hosts for just 150, the ace spinner returned to collect another seven in the second as Team India registered an emphatic innings victory.

The cricketer finished with 12 wickets in the match, and was assisted by Ravindra Jadeja with his five-wicket Test haul.

Ishant Sharma, while speaking on JioCinema, assessed the spinners performance by describing them as the best in the spin-bowling business. He added that no one expected a team to be shot out within a session and a half, and the recent performance clearly reflected Ashwin and Jadeja’s quality.

“No one expected that a team could get out in one-and-a-half sessions but we all know Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja's quality. They have picked up wickets on flat pitches where the ball doesn't turn much, this wicket had a lot of turn and help for them and they showed why they are the best spinners in the world.”

Sharma also described Ashwin as one of the best spinners in the world after his 12-wicket haul. He praised his training ethics at the nets and believes the seasoned campaigner reaped the fruits of his hard work in Dominica.

“Ashwin, no doubt, is a great spinner - one of the best in the world and is ranked No. 1 in Tests because of that. It is very difficult for a bowler to pick up 10 wickets, whether you are a spinner or a fast bowler, you need to bowl a lot of overs and you need to prepare for that in the nets. So he got the fruits of his effort.”

India will now face West Indies in the second Test of the series, set to launch on July 20. The match will be played out at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
