Ravichandran Ashwin, the current number one Test bowler in the World, unleashed mayhem during the opening test of the two-match series against West Indies, held at Windsor Park, Dominica.

After being dropped from India's playing XI in the World Test Championship final against Australia last month, Ashwin staged a sensational return and bagged a total of 12 wickets in the first test against West Indies.

The Tamil Nadu spinner picked up his 33rd five wicket haul in the first inning by registering figures of 24.3-6-60-5 and came back even stronger in the second innings on Friday (July 14), taking down a total of seven batters from the opposition.

Ashwin's mind-boggling performance in the second innings against West Indies, where he took seven wickets, propelled him to become India's second highest wicket taker in international cricket, surpassing the legendary former cricketer, Harbhajan Singh.

The Punjab spinner took 707 wickets in his 365 international appearances while Ashwin now has a total of 709 wickets to his name in just 271 international appearances. The legendary Anil Kumble tops this list with 953 wickets in 401 international outings.

Most international wickets for India:

• Anil Kumble – 953

• R Ashwin – 708

• Harbhajan Singh – 707

Ashwin also became the first India bowler to complete separate 5-wicket hauls in each innings of a Test match against West Indies away from home. Ashwin now has six 5-wicket hauls against West Indies — the most by any Indian bowler in history.

As long as the match is concerned, India declared their innings at 421 runs on Day three and subsequently bowled West Indies out for a mere 151 runs on the same day, thanks to R Ashwin's exceptional seven-wicket haul, well aided by Ravindra Jadeja who took two wickets.
