After being dropped from the team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Ravichandran Ashwin made an impressive comeback, playing a pivotal role in India's victory against West Indies at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.

The seasoned bowler snatched a record-setting 12 wickets, leading India to a commanding win by an innings and 141 runs within three days. His sensational bowling over the course of three days resulted in several records being broken.

Most five-wicket hauls among active bowlers

In the first innings, Ashwin's stellar 5/60 performance marked his 33rd five-wicket haul, surpassing England's James Anderson to become the active bowler with the highest number of fifers in Test matches.

Fifth in list of most fifers in Test cricket

Ashwin's second innings saw him claiming another seven wickets, matching Rangana Herath's total of 34 five-wicket hauls, leaving him just one shy of Anil Kumble's tally, and earning him the fifth place overall on this coveted list.

Most fifers in India vs West Indies Tests

With two fifers in the game, Ashwin surpassed Harbhajan Singh's record of most fifers (4) in India vs West Indies encounters, sharing the top spot with the legendary Malcolm Marshall (6).

Most bowled dismissals by an Indian bowler

In addition to his remarkable performance, Ashwin became the Indian bowler with the most bowled dismissals in Test cricket, breaking Anil Kumble's previous record of 94 by knocking over the stumps on 95 occasions.



Most 12-wicket hauls in Tests

His 12-wicket haul in the Test marked the sixth time in his career that he's achieved this feat, equalling the record set by Muttiah Muralitharan and overtaking Rangana Herath (5).

Recording most fifers in both innings of a Test 

Ashwin also added to his records by securing a five-wicket haul in both innings for the sixth time, matching Sydney Barnes and standing third globally behind Muralitharan (11) and Herath (8). 

Second in list of most five-wicket hauls in winning cause

Ashwin (28) overtook the late Shane Warne in terms of five-wicket hauls leading to wins, now only trailing Muralitharan with his 41 instances.

Best figures by a spinner on West Indian soil

The spinner recorded his best match return of 12 for 131 in an away Test, making it the best performance by an Indian bowler in a Test in West Indies, and setting a record for any spinner.

Most 10-wicket hauls for India

Ashwin's sensational performance has positioned him among India's all-time greats, as no other Indian bowler has secured more 10-wicket hauls than him. Both him and the legendary Anil Kumble stand together with eight 10-wicket hauls each.

Second-most international wickets for India

Ashwin has also ascended to the second position in the list of Indian bowlers with the most international wickets (709), surpassing Harbhajan Singh's tally of 707, and now second only to Anil Kumble's record of 953 wickets.
