Seasoned speedster Jasprit Bumrah was a notable Indian absentee at Ranchi when his teammates arrived at the city’s airport on February 20. The 30-year-old recently took the field for Team India at Rajkot shortly after packing a match-winning nine-fer at Vizag.

Bumrah’s absence at Ranchi further fuelled speculations of a possible “rest” for the fast bowler as part of his workload management.

Bumrah’s absence at Ranchi fuels speculation

On February 20, i.e., a couple of days prior to the fourth Test of the five-match series between India and England, several Indian players were seen making their way outside the Ranchi airport after they had arrived in the city via a private charter from BCCI.

Interestingly, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep were the only two fast bowlers from the Indian camp spotted at the airport, with Jasprit Bumrah being a notable absentee.

As per earlier reports, Jasprit Bumrah will likely be rested from the Indian playing XI for the fourth Test match against England. The decision will be taken as part of the speedster’s workload management.

Mohammed Siraj was also handed a similar break from the Vizag Test earlier in February, which allowed Mukesh Kumar to get a crack in the playing XI.

Bumrah has so far snapped 17 wickets in the series, including a Test-winning match-haul of 9-91 at Vizag.

The upcoming fourth Test between England and hosts India will be staged at the JSCA International Stadium Complex at Ranchi and will be played between February 23 and February 27.
