Ravichandran Ashwin received a significant praise from former English captain Michael Vaughan after the Indian spinner snapped his 500th wicket at Rajkot. Apart from acknowledging Ashwin’s coveted milestone, Vaughan also compared the legendary Indian all-rounder with all-time spin greats Muttiah Muralitharan and late Shane Warne.

Vaughan praises Ravi Ashwin for 500-wicket landmark

On Day 2 of the third match at Rajkot, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed a raging Zak Crawley to seize the 500th wicket of his Test career. In doing so, the 37-year-old cricketer became only the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble and ninth overall to get to the landmark figure.

Shortly after Ashwin’s landmark Test wicket, former English captain and active commentator Michael Vaughan praised the Indian spinner by putting him in the same bracket of Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan and late Australian spin wizard Shane Warne.

Vaughan also described Ashwin as the “professor” as well as a “scientist” of the game. While speaking with Cricbuzz, the former England cricketer said:

“Ravichandran Ashwin is on the same echelons as Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. He's the professor and the scientist of the game.”

Ravichandran Ashwin can further enhance his illustrious Test tally as he is slated to turn up for Team India in the fourth match of their series against England. The seasoned Indian off-spinner has already snapped 11 English wickets so far in the series, which including a match-winning spell of 3-72 on the decisive day of the Vizag Test earlier in February.

The fourth match between India and England will be staged between February 23 and February 27, and will be hosted by the iconic JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
