In a recent revelation, Manoj Tiwary, the seasoned cricketer who recently retired from professional cricket, opened up about a heated altercation with former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir during a Ranji Trophy match in 2015. Tiwary, reflecting on his career, cited this incident as his biggest regret.

When the match took place at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium (now known as Arun Jaitley Stadium), fast bowler Sumit Narwal was getting ready to bowl from the opposite end. Tiwary, who was going to bat at number four, initially wore a cap but later asked to wear a helmet. This move irked Gambhir, who was fielding at slip, leading to a heated exchange between the two players.

Then Tiwary yelled at Gambhir, saying, “Did I tell you anything? Why did you have to come in between,” recounts the incident.

Despite their past camaraderie while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the confrontation tarnished their relationship. Tiwary regretted, stating,

“We were really close at one point, which is why I mentioned that it is my biggest regret. We used to debate and strategize a lot when we were playing for KKR regarding who to choose in Kolkata. We used to discuss specifics and inputs in our relationship. However, things did not work out as they ought to have," he continued.

Gambhir's retort, "Tu bahar mil match ke baad, and aaj tu gaya," further escalated the situation. Tiwary deemed this remark immature, particularly in the presence of journalists, as the incident unfolded in full view at the Kotla, where the journalist's tent is situated within the ground.

Both players faced financial consequences, with Tiwary fined 70% of his match fees and Gambhir's match fees being deducted by 40%.
