India's pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, will be sitting out the upcoming fourth Test against England in Ranchi, as per reports, to manage his workload. Despite his exceptional performance, leading the wicket-taker chart with 17 scalps from three matches, the Indian team management has decided to prioritize Bumrah's long-term fitness, given his recent return from a back injury.

Bumrah's absence from the Ranchi Test, scheduled to commence on February 23, comes after a comprehensive 434-run win for India in the third Test in Rajkot, giving them a 2-1 lead in a 5- -Test match series. With an eye on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) and T20 World Cup, the decision aims to ensure Bumrah's fitness for crucial future tournaments.

The 30-year-old fast bowler, known for his lethal yorkers and impeccable line and length, has bowled a total of more than 80 overs in the last three weeks of the series. His workload management is essential, especially considering his history of back injuries, including surgery in March 2023.

In Bumrah's absence, the Indian team may look to replace him with Mukesh Kumar or opt for a fourth spinner, depending on the pitch conditions in Ranchi. Mukesh, who impressed in the Ranji Trophy with a 10-wicket haul for Bengal against Bihar, stands as a potential replacement.

The decision to rest Bumrah echoes the team's strategy of managing key players' workload, as seen with Mohammed Siraj's rest during the second Test. India, already ahead in the series, will be eager to seal the victory in the upcoming Test match, further solidifying their dominance over England.

With Bumrah set to enjoy nearly a 20-day break before the series finale in Dharamsala, which begins on March 7, his return will depend on the outcome of the Ranchi Test.
