In a mid-week PSL doubleheader, Karachi Kings will take on Peshawar Zalmi at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday, February 21, from 2.30 PM IST onwards. Both teams are yet to taste victory this season after losing their opening games against respective opponents by fine margins.

Karachi Kings

Karachi Kings, led by Shan Masood, lost the season-opening game to Mohammad Rizwan's Multan Sultans. Courtesy of Reeza Hendricks's 79-run knock, the Sultans managed to put 185 runs on the board in the first innings.

However, despite boasting a potent batting lineup, the Kings succumbed under pressure, and the loss of wickets at regular intervals foiled the momentum. Eventually, Shoaib Malik's brave half-century contributed to the losing cause as the Kings were bundled for 130 runs.

That being said, many things went wrong for the Kings against the Sultans, and they need to figure it out as a unit to get deep into the season. 

The batting order, especially the top order, must do better, and Shan Masood could likely drop down the order as the opening slot does not seem his forte.

Peshawar Zalmi

Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi lost its season opener to Quetta Gladiators by fine margins on Sunday. The bowling unit leaked a ridiculous number of runs in the death overs, which helped the Gladiators post a mammoth 206 runs on board.

However, the Zalmi didn't lose hope as Saim Ayub and Babar Azam put together a 91-run partnership for the opening stand. 

The Zalmi had the game under its grip until the middle order kneeled down in the mid-overs. Besides the openers, nobody could cross the 20-run mark figure as Peshawar Zalmi fell short of 16 runs at the end.

It was indeed a tough loss for skipper Babar Azam, who dropped every ounce of sweat to somehow take his team through the finish line.

Regardless, the upcoming game against the dispirited Karachi Kings is a new opportunity for Azam to get his team back to winning ways and earn some points on the table.

The pitch of Gaddafi Stadium has lived up to its reputation, as runs have been flowing continuously at this venue this PSL season. 

The average first innings score is 180-190, with 200 being an achievable target on a given day. Thus, batting second should be a good option for the toss-winning captain. That being said, spinners will remain in play, but to make an impact, they will be required to be extremely disciplined with the execution.
