2023 was a year Ishan Kishan might wish to erase, a season of silence after being axed from BCCI’s central contracts, left to grapple with rejection. But 2024 wrote a different script. On a sweltering Hyderabad evening, the 26-year-old exploded back into the spotlight with a blistering 45-ball century for Sunrisers Hyderabad, his maiden IPL ton.

Stripped of national duties, Kishan retreated to his roots in Patna, channelling his turmoil into sweat and steel. He built his own cricket academy, trained like a monk, and dissected his flaws frame by frame. The boy who once chased glory now chased mastery.

Ishan Kishan's Fall and the Fire

Dropped from India’s radar after skipping the Ranji Trophy, Kishan faced a harsh truth. Talent alone wasn’t enough. “I had a lot of time… I worked hard on my batting. The preparation was good,” he admitted, underplaying the storm he weathered.

His days became a ritual. Mornings dedicated to gruelling nets at his self-funded academy, evenings spent in the gym or dissecting videos.

“He trained two sessions daily… mornings focused on intense skill work, evenings on fitness or self-analysis. He stayed in Patna, avoiding distractions, to stay focused,” a source close to his regimen revealed.

Kishan’s revival wasn’t just technical, it was mental. “He worked extensively on his mental game by analysing his own videos,” the source added. The time away from the spotlight became a cocoon, with family as his anchor.

Cummins’ Calm and Kishan’s Freedom

SRH skipper Pat Cummins’ faith was pivotal. “Ishan today was incredible. Just trying to play with freedom. The boys have created a blue-print,” he praised. Kishan reciprocated the trust. “Pat knows what’s best for the team. We have to enjoy our gameplay, plan accordingly, not fear failure.”

That 45-ball century wasn’t just about runs, it was catharsis. “The nervousness was there… Pat and the coach gave me confidence. The environment is calm. I just enjoyed my time,” Kishan said, clutching his Player of the Match trophy.
