Ishan Kishan Continues Missing Ranji Trophy Matches Amidst BCCI Controversy

Indian wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan is not playing the last league match for Jharkhand against Rajasthan. BCCI has already released a strict message against the players skipping Ranji Trophy matches and even asked Ishan to join the Jharkhand side. This can create a cold war between Kishan and the national selectors.

Ishan Kishan last played a professional match in November 2023 in the T20I series right after the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup against Australia. Kishan has played two Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20Is for India scoring 78, 933, and 796 runs respectively.

He made his Test debut against West Indies in July 2023 and has not played any match after that series.

During an event in Rajkot on February 14, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said when asked about Ishan Kishan, “He is a youngster… there is no need to mention his name. It applies to everyone. Everyone under the contract and the ones being targeted too. All players will have no choice but to play domestic cricket".

The southpaw was a part of the Indian squad for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. He was selected as the reserve opener. He played the first two games in the absence of Shubman Gill, who was diagnosed with dengue.

As Yashasvi Jaiswal is doing wonders in the shortest format too, it's looking difficult for Ishan to make it to the 2024 T20 World Cup squad. He is likely to make his comeback directly in the IPL.
