Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up right where they left off last season, starting their IPL 2025 campaign with a commanding 44-run win over Rajasthan Royals. In a match packed with runs, it was Ishan Kishan who grabbed the limelight with a sensational century.
Here’s the timeline of how SRH vs RR panned out in Hyderabad.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma Give Flying Start
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma came out swinging from ball one. No sighters, no holding back: just pure aggression. The duo stitched together a 45-run opening stand in no time. Abhishek looked good during his short stay and cracked 24 runs before he was dismissed. But Head wasn’t done just yet.
The Aussie opener kept the foot on the gas and didn’t spare a single loose ball. He notched up a quickfire 67 off 31 balls, smacking the bowlers all around the park. His stay ended courtesy of Tushar Deshpande, but the damage was already done.
Ishan Kishan Smashes Hundred On Debut As SRH Run Riot
While Head set the stage, it was Ishan Kishan who completely stole the show. Making his debut for SRH, the left-hander batted like he had a point to prove. From the get-go, he was in beast mode. Timing? On point. Placement? Spot on. Intent? Aggressive.
He and Head added 85 runs for the second wicket, and when Head walked back, Kishan took full charge. He wasn’t just finding boundaries, he was clearing them with ease. Nitish Kumar Reddy chipped in with a fiery 30 off 15 and then Heinrich Klaasen joined the party with 34 off 14.
But it was Kishan’s night. He brought up his century on the final ball of the 19th over and ended the innings unbeaten on 106 off just 47 balls, an innings laced with 11 fours and 6 sixes as SRH posted a colossal 286/6 in their 20 overs.
Simarjeet Singh Shocks RR With Double Blow
Chasing a mammoth target, RR needed a blazing start, but they got the exact opposite. Simarjeet Singh threw a spanner in the works early on. He dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) and Riyan Parag (4) both in the second over and sent a clear message that SRH weren’t going to let this one slip.
Even before the Royals could settle down, Mohammed Shami joined the party and got rid of Nitish Rana for 11. By the end of the powerplay, Rajasthan had raced to 77/3, thanks to some counterpunching by skipper Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel.
Sanju Samson & Dhruv Jurel Bring The Fight But SRH Sail Through
While wickets tumbled at one end, Samson continued playing his strokes fearlessly. Jurel wasted no time and smashed 20 runs off Pat Cummins’ first over, instantly swinging momentum in RR’s favour.
The duo kept the scoreboard ticking and matched SRH’s intensity with some brutal hitting of their own. Both batters brought up their half-centuries, and together they stitched a 100-run partnership that gave RR fans a glimmer of hope.
Samson was eventually dismissed for 66 off 37 balls in the 14th over by Harshal Patel and the very next over saw Jurel fall for a brilliant 70 off 35 balls, undone by Adam Zampa.
With 118 runs needed off the last 30 balls, the match was already slipping out of RR’s hands. Shimron Hetmyer (42) and Shubham Dubey (34) tried to go down swinging, but the target was well out of reach.
In the end, RR fell short by 44 runs, and SRH walked away with two crucial points and a big net run rate boost.
