Former England Test captain Joe Root has recently surpassed Mahela Jayawardene and Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the all-time Test run-scorers list, amassing 11,940 runs.

Root, currently eighth in Test history, has set his sights on breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record. Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan strongly believes Root could achieve this monumental feat.

Root's latest milestone came with his 32nd Test century against the West Indies at Trent Bridge in the second Test.

This remarkable innings elevated him to the position of the eighth-highest run-getter in Test cricket. With 142 Tests under his belt, Root's tally of 11,940 runs stands as a testament to his consistency and prowess at the crease. Tendulkar, who played 200 Tests, holds the record with 15,921 runs.

In his column for The Telegraph, Vaughan expressed his confidence in Root's potential to surpass Tendulkar.

"Joe Root will become England’s leading run-scorer in the next few months and is so special that he really could overtake Sachin Tendulkar eventually. They are scoring quickly, but it doesn’t look like their egos are taking over. They are just playing with good sense," Vaughan wrote.

Root is also closing in on records held by former England batter Alastair Cook. He is just one century away from equaling Cook's record of 33 Test hundreds for England and 532 runs short of becoming England's all-time leading run-scorer in Tests.

England recently clinched a 241-run victory over the West Indies in the second Test, securing a 2-0 lead in the series. The final Test is set to begin on July 26 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
