India Capitals skipper and opening batsman Gautam Gambhir bizarrely spooned a catch towards the off-side boundary while attempting to play his famous leg glance against Southern Superstars speedster Suranga Lakmal.

Chasing 164 to win against Superstars in a must-win game, the former Indian cricketer was dismissed for just three at the hands of the Sri Lankan fast bowler in the third over of the innings.

Leading India Capitals in their must-win Legends League Cricket 2023 game against Southern Superstars, Gautam Gambhir took the first guard for his side in their tense run-chase alongside Ricardo Powell.

While Powell launched a confident start from his end, Gambhir failed to get going before he spooned an easy catch towards the off-side boundary while attempting to play a leg glance against Southern Superstars’ Sri Lankan import Suranga Lakmal.

Ashok Dinda, stationed at deep backward point near the boundary, comfortably completed the catch to send Gambhir packing back to the pavilion for just three.

Fortunately for Gautam Gambhir, his opening partner Ricardo Powell produced a match-winning ton to fuel his side past the finishing line with more than three overs to spare.

The win marked India Capitals’ first of the Legends League Cricket 2023 season after they had suffered final-over defeats to Bhilwara Kings and Urbanrisers Hyderabad in their initial two games of the competition.

Gambhir himself scored a fighting 63 against the Kings before falling for twin single-digit failures in his side’s subsequent fixtures against the Urbanisers and Superstars. As of now, the India Capitals find themselves placed at number three on the 2023 Legends League Cricket points table.
