BCCI Happy With Dravid-Rohit Duo's Two-Year Term For India - Reports

Doubts may have emerged over their respective futures at the helm of affairs on the outside, but the BCCI seems pleased with the work put in over the past two years by Indian captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid.

Both the giants of Indian cricket will be contemplating their fate in the coming days as the reigning skipper and head of support staff after the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023. However, there is no pressure from the board for either individual to relinquish his post.

According to PTI, the BCCI regime led by board president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah had a discussion with Dravid to gauge his interest in extending his stint, which ended with the completion of his two-year term after the heartbreaking Ahmedabad final loss to Australia.

The board was willing to provide Dravid with the first right of refusal amidst reports that the legendary former India skipper is unlikely to continue in the head coach's role and that his ex-teammate and NCA Director of Cricket, VVS Laxman, is emerging as the frontrunner to replace him.

BCCI Happy With Rohit-Dravid

Dravid is reportedly in discussions with a couple of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises for a potential fresh start in coaching or mentorship duties in an arrangement that would also allow him to spend more time with his family.

"Rahul and the BCCI talked about where things stand now. We will respect the decision taken by him. The general feeling is that with the T20 World Cup about 7-8 months away, there is time for a new coach to come in and build a team and set a process. He (Dravid) is quite aware of that," a BCCI official privy to the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"We are also talking about whether continuity (current coach/captain combination) is needed for the (T20) WC. We are hoping to reach a decision soon so that path forward is clear," the official added.

With the next ICC event - the 2024 T20 World Cup - also eight months away, the BCCI top brass realises a new coach will get his time to plan and prepare for the tournament in the Caribbean and the USA.
