Hardik Or Rohit, Who Should Captain MI In IPL 2024? AB de Villiers Gives His Verdict

AB de Villiers has made a strong claim amidst rumors of Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya shifting back to Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024. According to the former South African captain and RCB Hall of Famer, the Indian all-rounder might well lead the Mumbai Indians franchise from next season onwards in order to ease up Rohit Sharma’s responsibility.

AB de Villiers has expressed his excitement over the prospect of Hardik Pandya relocating back to his original IPL franchise, the Mumbai Indians for next year’s 2024 edition.

The former South African cricketer believes that Pandya has already done his bid for Gujarat Titans in two years, and it's time for the all-rounder to shift back to Mumbai Indians and assist Rohit Sharma by shouldering captaincy himself. Taking to his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers said:

“It is a big and exciting news. Rohit is carrying a lot of weight as far as captaincy is concerned. He leads India in international cricket, and I feel Hatdik will take up the leadership role at MI to ease some pressure from Rohit’s shoulders.”

Back in late 2021, Hardik Pandya made an exit from Mumbai Indians after seven years to join Gujarat Titans. Leading the new franchise in their first IPL appearance, the all-round maverick guided them to ultimate glory and took them to another final the following season against CSK.

However, recent reports seem to indicate that the cricketer wants to shift back to the Mumbai Indians camp for IPL 2024.

Pandya was last seen in action during the 2023 World Cup, where an ankle injury prompted him to skip the backend of the tournament. As of now, the 30-year-old is recovering from his injury in a bid to return to the competitive fold.
