Pakistan captain Babar Azam got candid ahead of the T20 World Cup as he dropped blame on senior players for not stepping up in a high-pressure game which is leading to collapses in the batting as well as bowling.

Leading up to the high-stake T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan lost a four game T20I series to England this week. The entire unit collectively underperformed which raised concerns surrounding their readiness for the bigger challenge awaiting in the USA and West Indies.

Pakistan is essentially in a rebuilding phase after the captaincy drama unfolded earlier this year. While Babar Azam was reinstated into his leadership duties, the team results have been largely indifferent.

However, despite their backs being against the wall, Babar Azam is confident of a turnaround in the T20 World Cup.

Following the series loss to England, Babar said the series was a learning curve for Pakistan and a big wake-up call ahead of the ICC event.

He added that contrary to popular belief, Pakistan is, in fact, playing modern-day cricket in the powerplay. However, the middle order has been a withstanding issue as Babar believes the senior players are not stepping up, thus leading to brutal collapses.

Babar Azam also reconfirmed that every player on the national side has been given proper clarity over their role in playing XI, and now it’s only a matter of proper execution.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign will kick off on June 6 against the USA in Dallas, Texas, before they head to New York to face arch-rivals India on June 9.
