Cricket West Indies (CWI) is expecting a significant financial uplift as it co-hosts the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, alongside the United States of America. This event marks the return of World Cup cricket to Caribbean shores after a 14-year hiatus.

Reports suggest that the tournament could generate around 200 crore INR in revenue for Cricket West Indies.

The tournament, beginning on June 2, will see various Caribbean nations sharing hosting duties with the United States. A total of 20 teams, including powerhouses like India, Australia, England, and Pakistan will compete in this mega event.

The influx of international teams, officials, media, and fans will likely lead to increased spending in local economies, boosting hospitality, tourism, and other related sectors.

This windfall couldn't come at a more opportune moment, as the organisation has been grappling with financial instability, affecting everything from player salaries to grassroots development.

This financial boost from the T20 World Cup promises to be a game-changer, providing much-needed resources to revitalize cricket in the Caribbean.

The projected 200 crore INR boost will allow CWI to address several critical areas. Firstly, it will enable the board to improve player contracts and support systems, ensuring that the West Indies can retain and nurture their cricketing talent.

Over the years, financial constraints have led to a talent drain, with players seeking more lucrative opportunities abroad.

This funding could help reverse that trend, ensuring that the Caribbean retains its best talents and continues to be a competitive force in international cricket. Secondly, the financial injection will facilitate the development of infrastructure.
