In a heartwarming take ahead of the T20 World Cup, former Indian cricketer and DC mentor Sourav Ganguly stated that Rishabh Pant has rediscovered his lost self almost 1.5 years after a near-fatal car accident.

Rishabh Pant was at risk of losing his cricketing career after he miraculously survived a near-fatal car accident on New Year’s Eve in 2022. However, multiple surgeries restricted his movement as it took Pant more than 15 months to regain match fitness.

Pant was supported by BCCI every step of the way and eventually, the wicket-keeper returned to the field of cricket this year in IPL 2024.

And satisfied with his fitness, Indian selectors welcomed back Pant into the national team as he was elected India’s first choice wicket-keeper for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

That being said, ahead of the mega ICC event, Sourav Ganguly, who saw Pant’s progress firsthand as DC mentor, revealed that Rishabh Pant is back to playing like his old self after surviving the horrific accident

"He was superb for us (DC) in the IPL. I was so happy to see the way he came back, because I have always said that he is a special player," Ganguly said.

Ganguly added that Pant is a special player, and nobody wants to lose such exceptional talent for disastrous and unfortunate reasons.

"Even earlier, I have said that he is exceptional. You don't want such talent to be lost for such disastrous reasons (accident). He has really worked hard to get back to where he is and he is the Rishabh Pant of old," he added.

But credit to Rishabh Pant and his fighting spirit as he never gave up on his dream and worked hard for 15 months to finally be able to get back his old self.
