VVS Laxman, the former Indian batter is all set to take on a temporary head coach role of the Indian team for the four-match T20I series against South Africa. The news has been reported by Cricbuzz, who has claimed that the top board official of BCCI has confirmed the news. Laxman has been asked to fill Gautam Gambhir's place as he and his support staff would be with the Indian Test team in Australia for the preparation of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Laxman currently heads National Cricket Academy (NCA) and has filled the head coach role in the past too, when Rahul Dravid, the designated coach was busy with other important tours. Along with Laxman, the likes of Sairaj Bahutule, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh who all are associated with NCA currently will be part of the coaching group in South Africa.

Tight Scheduling Force India To Use Temporary Measures

India are scheduled to play four T20I matches in South Africa under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership with the first game starting on November 8. The final game of that series will be played on 15th of November, just a week before the start of first Test match against Australia. Also, the Test team is scheduled to leave for Australia on 10th or 11th November which means that the players and coaching staff that are with the Test team were not available for the T20I series against South Africa.

BCCI have gone with plenty of new faces in the T20I squad which includes maiden India call-up for Ramandeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vyshak. Most of the other players have retained their places after a good performance in the Bangladesh T20I series and Suryakumar Yadav would be looking to continue his winning streak.
