Australia has rested its Test players for the home T20I series against Pakistan. While the squad has been announced, the player leading the team has yet to be named.
The T20I series will take place next month and ends about four days before Australia plays India in the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy. The players who are rested for the T20I series are Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, and Travis Head. Notably, all-rounder Cameron Green is injured and will miss the Australian summer.
Australia will look for a new captain in the series
Earlier this month, Australia included their pace battery for the ODI series against Pakistan, set to begin on November 4. Cricket Australia will have to find a new captain for the T20Is series as Mitchell Marsh, the regular skipper in the format, will be rested. It is expected that someone from Adam Zampa, Josh Inglish, Glenn Maxwell, or Matt Short will be at the helm for the assignment.
Fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson will return from injuries in the series. The first match will be played at Brisbane on November 14, followed by Sydney on the 16th and Hobart on November 18.
George Bailey excited to see the younger players perform at the international level
While speaking about playing a relatively younger team, chief selector George Bailey said - "This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series."
"We are excited by the mix of experience combined with those closer to the start of their international journeys."
