India Women's team started off the ODI series against New Zealand women with a comprehensive win by 59 runs. However, they are in some serious trouble in the second game as they have lost seven wickets for 102 in their run-chase of 260. Sophie Devine picked two wickets out of those seven and both of them were big wickets of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Rodrigues wicket came in the 14th over when India were 64-3. It was a shortish delivery, outside off and the batter went for a cut shot. She only managed to get an outside edge though and Isabella Gaze took a sharp catch behind the stumps. The wicket was a crucial one for New Zealand, but Rodrigues would be disappointed with her efforts as she managed just 17 off 28 balls.

Collective Failure Continues For Batting Department

The cameras also caught Indian players with a worried look in the dugout. Smriti Mandhana, especially was in shock and Shafali Verma along with head coach Amol Muzumdar were also visibly gutted. 

After the wicket of Rodrigues, Sophie Devine dismissed Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for 24 and Indian batters have just not been able to convert their starts in this game. Earlier, Smriti Mandhana departed for a two-ball duck while young duo of Shafali and Yastika Bhatia also failed to make an impression. India team have been lately struggled with the bat. They were below-par in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the same story is progressing in the ODI format.
