Former India batter and current National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief, VVS Laxman, is all set to extend his tenure by another year as the NCA head.

Laxman's three-year tenure was about to end in September 2024, and there were reports that he might not extend his contract and join Lucknow Super Giants as their mentor for IPL 2025. However, a report from Cricinfo mentioned that Laxman will extend his tenure for at least a year.  A previous report also mentioned that ex-India batting coach Vikram Rathour might replace Laxman at the NCA.

The news has come ahead of the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art NCA  being developed on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Despite being the NCA head, Laxman has donned several hats, such as touring the Indian side as their interim head coach, but this extension has ruled out all the possibilities of his return to the IPL.

Features And Facilities At The New NCA

The facility will boast three grounds and 100 pitches, including 45 indoor turfs, an Olympic-size swimming pool and state-of-the-art training, recovery and sports science facilities.

Recently, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah also announced that the new-state of art NCA will be accessible to non-cricketing athletes like Neeraj Chopra and Manu Bhaker.

Laxman Celebrates Independence Day At NCA

On India's 78th Independence Day, Laxman took to Twitter to post a photo with a group of boys at the NCA celebrating the special occasion.
