Mohammad Rizwan has been appointed as white-ball captain ahead of the Australian tour, and it is the start of a new era in Pakistan cricket. The cricket in the country has suffered quite a lot in the last year or so, and PCB has been trying out plenty of different things to bring their team back on track. Rizwan's appointment is a step in that direction, and one of the troubling issues for Pakistan in recent times has been the allegations of groupism in the team.
Rizwan Dismisses Claims Of Groupism In Pakistan Cricket
Rizwan too was asked about it during his first press conference as captain and the wicketkeeper batter gave quite a detailed answer to it. He said that rumours are coming from somewhere else, but added that for him the group is the whole Pakistan team. He added that as a captain, his focus will be on carry out tasks attending presentations and handing conferences. He also added an interesting dimension by stating that all 15 players are captains in their own way right as everyone has to take responsibility in one way or another.
"Look, as far as these rumours are concerned, they may have been heard from somewhere, but if I am part of a group, it’s the Pakistan team’s group—our whole group. Now that I am captain, for me, the most important thing is that all fifteen players of Pakistan are captains in their own way. My role as captain is to carry out tasks, attend presentations, and handle conferences. I’m doing these things, and, Inshallah, all of our Pakistan team members are also captains in their own right because, as you can see, everyone is leading in one way or another."
Mohammad Rizwan To Start His Captaincy Journey With Tough Australian Tour
Rizwan's first assignment as Pakistan captain is the three-match ODI series against Australia which will start on November 4. There are plenty of new names in Pakistan's squad while the experience players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi are also back in the mix. The ODI series will be followed by T20I series against the Aussies and Pakistan's caravan will then move to Zimbabwe for another white-ball tour where Salman Ali Agha will lead the T20I team in the absence of Mohammad Rizwan.
