Virat Kohli has been urged by a legion of Pakistan cricket fans to ‘support’ Babar Azam amidst the latter’s struggles with the bat. Babar is currently in the middle of a huge slump in form, considering the former Pakistan captain has not scored a single international century since his 151 against Nepal back in August 2023, and not a single Test century since his 161 against New Zealand in December 2022.

The legendary Pakistan batter failed to notch up a single notable score across both, the 2023 ODI and 2024 T20 World Cups, and is yet to list a Test fifty for nearly two years. After his latest failure with the bat during Pakistan’s 0-2 series loss to Bangladesh, a number of his fans took to X and urged Indian batting great Virat Kohli to “motivate his junior” at the time of his lean patch.

Babar fans ask for payback of ‘this too shall pass’

Back in mid-2022, Babar Azam took to his social media account and lent words of encouragement for a then-struggling Virat Kohli. In a strongly-worded post on X, Babar wrote:

“This too shall pass. Stay strong.”

Cut forward to mid-2024 and Babar Azam is facing a similar batting crisis, if not worse, and his fans are expecting Virat Kohli to recreate a parallel post featuring words of motivation and encouragement. Shortly after Pakistan’s humiliating 0-2 series defeat at home to Bangladesh, numerous ‘Men in Green’ fans flocked to their respective social media accounts and stated that they expect Virat to stand for a struggling Babar.

Notably, certain Pakistan fans also stood up for Virat Kohli and claimed that the legendary Indian batter is not obligated to motivate anyone as a return gesture for a two-year-old motivational post. Here is a look at some of the fans articulating their expectations from Virat Kohli in regards to Babar Azam’s form slump:

Form reversal for Kohli and Babar

Ever since Babar Azam last recorded a Test half-century, Virat Kohli has shaped astonishing match-defining centuries during India’s 2023 BGT series win as well as in their victorious 2023 Asia Cup campaign in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, Kohli shattered numerous batting records at the 2023 World Cup, where he notched up his 50th ODI century to soar past Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record, and also scaled the record for registering the highest number of runs in a single edition. Quite recently, Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is after punching out a match-winning 76 for India in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa.

As of now, the legendary Indian batter is prepping up for India’s grueling Test season in the coming months.
