Why Did India Lose World Cup Final Vs Australia? Rahul Dravid Reveals

On Sunday, Australia defeated India comprehensively by six wickets in the all-important final to clinch their sixth World Cup title. Bowling first, Australia restricted India to a below-par 240-run total and chased it down inside 43 overs, thanks to an exceptional 120-ball 137 from Travis Head.

After the game concluded, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid hailed the Australian opener for his superb knock.

Speaking to the media in the post-match press conference, Dravid held the batters responsible for such a disappointing show in the final. The legendary batter reckoned that India were at least 30-40 runs short on a track that was a bit.

He also said that had they scored a few more runs, it could've been a different game altogether.

"We were 30-40 runs short. They bowled really well. The ball was stopping in the afternoon. There was not a lot of dew but it came better under the lights. We didn't get those boundaries and kept losing wickets at critical intervals," Dravid said.

"If we had got to 280-290, it would have been a different game. They batted really well. Travis Head batted exceptionally well", he added.

After finishing as the runners-up in the 2023 World Cup, India will take on Australia in a five-match T20I series starting on the 23rd of this month.
