India's 14-year-old batting sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, experienced a tough outing in the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 final as India suffered a heartbreaking defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai. The much-anticipated clash, played at the ICC Academy Ground on Sunday, December 21, was marked by high emotions and intense pressure.
Batting first, Pakistan U19 produced a dominant performance to post a massive total of 347 runs in the 1st innings. The innings was powered by a remarkable knock from Sameer Minhas, who scored 172 runs off just 113 balls.
India’s response did not go as planned. Openers Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi were expected to shoulder the responsibility in the big final. However, Mhatre failed to handle the pressure and was dismissed early for just two runs.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, however, showed no signs of nerves at the start. The teenage prodigy attacked from ball one and lit up the chase with his fearless strokeplay. He raced to 26 runs off just nine deliveries.
While Vaibhav was expected to show some maturity given the stage, he failed to meet expectations. While trying to play an ambitious shot against pacer Ali Raza, Suryavanshi edged a delivery to the wicketkeeper.
The early collapse proved costly as India eventually fell short of the target. Tensions flared briefly during the match when Suryavanshi appeared to exchange words with Ali Raza after his dismissal.
Suryavanshi keeps calm as fans 'Boo' him outside stadium
After the match, attention shifted away from the field due to an incident that surfaced on social media later. A video went viral showing several Pakistan fans waiting outside the stadium, booing Vaibhav Suryavanshi as he walked past them following India’s defeat.
Despite the hostile chants, the 14-year-old did not respond or gesture. He was seen walking away calmly and quietly, showing composure and maturity beyond his age.

The final marked a disappointing end to what had otherwise been a memorable tournament for the young player. Vaibhav Suryavanshi had begun the Asia Cup in sensational fashion, smashing a stunning 171 off 95 balls against the UAE.
He followed it up with a solid half-century against Malaysia. However, his form dipped during the knockout stages, with low scores against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Taking a look at his overall stats, he made 261 runs in 5 innings at an average of 52.20 and a strike-rate of 182.52.
