Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball head coach on October 28, i.e., just six months after his appointment. Originally roped in by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a two-year term, the legendary Proteas batter reportedly left his post over difference of opinion with the team management regarding the selection process.

Kirsten’s premature exit came as a huge setback for the Pakistan national team, especially in their buildup path towards the 2025 Champions Trophy at home in a few months’ time. With several fans trolling Pakistan cricket at one end while experts strongly expressing their concerns over Pakistan’s current state of affairs at the other, former England captain Kevin Pietersen has now hopped onto the bandwagon only to berate the PCB for losing Kirsten.

‘Stop doing it to yourselves…’ Kevin Pietersen slams PCB

With Pakistan cricket fans basking themselves in the glory of an emphatic Test series win over serial ‘BazBallers’ England at home, the nation’s 2025 Champions Trophy prospects took a serious hit with the premature resignation of Gary Kirsten as white-ball head coach.

Expressing his views over the matter, former England captain Kevin Pietersen took to X and berated the PCB for losing a decorated World Cup-winning head coach like Kirsten. Pietersen also signified the turbulent nature of Pakistan cricket, by indirectly implying their recent Test series win over England only to follow it up with a fresh scandal in the coaching department.

Nonetheless, the PCB has now appointed Test coach Jason Gillespie as Pakistan’s temporary red-ball supervisor for the upcoming tours of Australia and Zimbabwe.

The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to tour Australia for a series of three T20Is and three ODI matches between November 4 and November 18.
