Noman Ali and Sajid Khan collectively engineered a comprehensive win for Pakistan over the visiting Englishmen on Day 3 of the Rawalpindi Test. The outcome also helped the Pakistan cricket team to seal their three-match series by a 2-1 margin.
Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs ENG panned out in Rawalpindi:
PAK vs ENG Highlights: Noman Ali Scythes England’s Middle-Order
Resuming the innings on Day 3 at a troublesome 24-3, overnight English batters Harry Brook and Joe Root cautiously carved handy runs to take their team past the 50-run mark without further casualty. Making way from their standard ‘BazBall’ approach, Brook listed just a couple of boundaries in his 40-ball knock of 26 before nicking one behind to Mohammad Rizwan off Noman Ali at 66-4.
Emboldened with the early breakthrough, Noman also claimed the prized-scalps of England captain Ben Stokes (3 off 9) and a well-set Joe Root (33 off 52) in quick succession.
PAK vs ENG Highlights: Sajid Khan Mops Up English Tail For Just 112
With Noman Ali operating from one end, fellow spinner and partner-in-crime Sajid Khan chipped in with the key wickets of Jaimie Smith, Gus Atkinson and Rehan Ahmed, all in the space of a single extensive spell to fold up the visitors for just 112 in 37.2 overs.
While Sajid finished with figures of 4-69 from his 18 overs, Noman added England’s number 10 Jack Leach to his tally of victims to collect 6-42.
Their collective spin brilliance prevented the English tail from flourishing as Pakistan set themselves an easy 36-run target to seal the series.
PAK vs ENG Highlights: Shan Masood Bludgeons 6-Ball 23* In Thumping Victory
The Pakistan cricket team, having recorded a Test win after a gap of nearly four years last week, catered themselves to yet another victory, this time by a thumping nine-wicket margin. Chasing 36 runs before the lunch break on Day 3, Pakistan lost opener Saim Ayub for just eight to a straight one from Jack Leach.
Arriving to the crease in just the third over of the innings, Pakistan captain and number three batter Shan Masood smeared four boundaries and a six in his six-ball stay to top-score with 23*. Captain Masood also fittingly notched up the winning runs for Pakistan with a six off Shoaib Bashir in just the fourth over of the easy chase.
Pakistan’s nine-wicket win helped them seal their three-match Test series over England by a 2-1 margin, thus recording their first series win at home in more than three-and-a-half years.
