The cricket world throws up dramatic moments quite often. But not quite all of those happen on the field. Ahead of the recently concluded third PAK vs ENG Test in Rawalpindi, England captain Ben Stokes landed himself in a hysterical situation with a Pakistani journalist.
England had posted a mammoth 823-run total in the first Test in Multan by England and the journalist wanted to ask a question about the same. However, the conversation that transpired between Stokes and the journalist left everyone in stitches.
Ben Stokes’ Speechless Reaction Became Instant Internet Gold
All was going routine with the media briefing in full flow when a Pakistan journalist asked Stokes if England could do an encore of the 823-run total in the series decider. But as luck would have it, framing the question in English seemed fiddlier than facing a James Anderson outswinger on a spicy pitch.
The poor journalist, after a few fumbled attempts, finally managed to blurt out his question, but not before leaving Stokes scratching his head, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
Ben Stokes did his level best to communicate across the language barrier. He listened closely, doing his best to make out what the journalist was asking, before saying “Sorry, could you ask that again?” He then tried listening again and couldn’t understand what the journalist was asking.
Stokes's real attempt to engage the journalist made it all the more endearing. As they say, it's all part of the game, and Stokes took it that way, keeping his sense of humour as the muddle unfolded.
The Comeback Story of Pakistan
And the drama on the field wasn't behind either. As strongly as the series had started for England, having won the first Test in Multan, Pakistan came back hard, firing on all cylinders.
They drew things even in the second Test and went on to dish out a nine-wicket thrashing in Rawalpindi in the third Test, sealing the series 2-1 and making one of their finest comebacks of recent times.
While the press conference moment was light-hearted, the Test series was anything but. The 823-run total that England posted in the first Test became a distant memory as Pakistan made sure to have the last laugh.
