In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Jason Gillespie as the white-ball head coach for the Australia tour after Gary Kirsten resigned. On October 28, PCB confirmed that Kirsten submitted his resignation to PCB, and the board accepted it through platform X (formerly Twitter). They wrote,

“The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced Jason Gillespie will coach the Pakistan men’s cricket team on next month’s white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten submitted his resignation, which was accepted.”

Gary Kirsten was appointed as the white-ball coach in April 2024, along with Jason Gillespie as the red-ball, however he ended his tenure soon after six months. As per the reports, Kirsten was unhappy with some of the internal workings of the PCB, that’s why he parted ways ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Australia and Zimbabwe.

PCB Makes Significant Changes Ahead Of Australia Tour

The PCB has been making significant moves ahead of the all-important tour. The board announced a 15-member squad, bringing back senior players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah, who were rested for the final two Tests against England at home. However, they have been rested again for the Zimbabwe tour. The captain was announced later in a press conference by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The cricket board appointed wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan as the captain for Pakistan’s white-ball team ahead of the upcoming tours of Australia and Zimbabwe, with Agha Salman as his deputy.

The Australia tour will begin from November 4 to 18, while the matches in Zimbabwe are scheduled from November 24 to December 5.
